Fasting is not an end in itself. It is a part of the whole. Fasting is the part where we clean the vessel.
During therapeutic water fasting, there is abstinence from all food and beverage except water, for the promotion or restoration of health. In natural medicine we believe that the fastest way to healing any illness is with a water fast. This should be the first step of any treatment. However if you are pregnant, diabetic or suffer from any chronic or autoimmune disease be sure to talk to a professional beforehand.
Fasting is not starvation. During fasting, the body burns stored energy. During starvation, the body no longer has those energy sources. So long as the body has reserves, a person abstaining from food is fasting not starving.
During a fast, the body uses non-vital tissue to nourish the organs and carry out activities. Only harmful and waste tissues are consumed.
Below are some of the benefits of a controlled and correctly performed water fast:
Rest for the digestive and immune systems
Increased mental clarity
Improved mental health
Breaking food addictions
Removal of toxins
Energy available to heal the body
Preparing for a fast is as important as the fast itself. 2-4 days before hand the following should be removed:
All sugar (except from fruit)
Coffee and black tea.
One day before shift to a 100% raw diet and include a meal of pure fruit. Begin the fast from when you wake up on day one.
Water fasts should last 24-72 hours. Longer fasts shouldn't be done without correct guidance and supervision.
During a fast many detox symptoms may be experienced such as headaches, irritability, sore muscles, itchy skin, waves of emotion, etc. However, this is a sign your body is getting rid of toxicity and restoring its health.
The process of breaking the fast is also another fundamental component. The fast should be broken with food which is alkaline and easy to digest. Start with small amounts of food.
